Electrifying ad campaign

Toronto Sun - Thursday, January 24, 2002
By ALAN FINDLAY

The Ontario government is spending $2.3 million on television ads to enlighten the public on competitive companies offering up electricity this spring.

The first ads start running this weekend, including one during CBC's Hockey Night In Canada, informing people they can start buying their hydro from new retailers as of May 1. People can also do nothing and continue buying power from their existing utility at the market rate, the ad states.

NDP Leader Howard Hampton blasted the ads as propaganda meant to smooth over a controversial plan to deregulate electricity.
