NDP cries cronyism

Toronto Sun - December 8, 2005
by Alan Findlay

An independent agency about to advise the province on the future of nuclear energy in Ontario is stacked with Liberal "cronies" and vested interests, Ontario NDP Leader Howard Hampton charged yesterday.

Raising the issue during question period, Hampton said the recently created Ontario Power Authority includes former Grit leader Lyn McLeod, party fundraiser Jan Carr and the head of a construction company recently certified to work on nuclear equipment.

The authority is widely expected to pave the way for expanded nuclear power generation in Ontario when it submits a report to the government tomorrow morning.

"How can ordinary Ontarians expect an independent and impartial report?" Hampton asked Dalton McGuinty.

The premier said they were picked for the board for their experience and qualifications.
